Higher education has a strategic role in producing quality human resources in Indonesia. However, the different characteristics between state universities (PTN) and private universities (PTS) pose various challenges in managing the quality and performance of institutions. Comprehensive performance measurement is important to improve operational effectiveness and efficiency, especially in the midst of global competition and public demands for quality higher education. This study aims to analyze how the Balanced Score Card (BSC) approach can be used as a strategic guide in creating competitive advantages in Islamic universities, as well as to examine the optimization of the four main perspectives of BSC: finance, customers, internal business processes, and learning and growth. Using a qualitative approach through literature study, this research shows that BSC provides a holistic framework in evaluating and improving the performance of Islamic education institutions in a sustainable and highly competitive manner at the national and global levels.
