This study is motivated by the significant role of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in shaping students’ social attitudes, despite existing challenges such as individualism and low social awareness among students from diverse backgrounds. This research aims to analyze the internalization processes of the values of taʿāruf (mutual acquaintance), tasāmuḥ (tolerance), and taʿāwun (cooperation) in developing students’ social attitudes at Darul Falah Sukorejo Islamic Boarding School and Assyafi’iyah Durisawo Islamic Boarding School. Employing a qualitative multi‐site design, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model.
The findings indicate that the internalization of taʿāruf is carried out through classical Islamic texts, Qur’an recitation gatherings, congregational practices, and daily habits such as greetings, which enhance students’ social solidarity. The value of tasāmuḥ is instilled through moral and jurisprudential texts, as well as cultural and religious activities such as sholawatan and megengan, fostering openness and respect for diversity. Meanwhile, taʿāwun is internalized through community service, social work, and collective prayer activities, strengthening cooperation and communal unity. Overall, these internalization processes effectively cultivate inclusive, tolerant, and cooperative social attitudes among students within the pesantren and the surrounding community.
