The Effectiveness of Interactive Animation Video on PPT in Teaching Speaking

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of interactive animated videos in improving the speaking proficiency of tenth-grade students at SMKN Kare. Employing a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, the research involved two groups: an experimental class (n = 24) and a control class (n = 25). The experimental group received instruction using interactive animated videos, while the control group was taught through conventional methods. Results indicated that the experimental group’s mean speaking score increased from 56.33 (pre-test) to 72.91 (post-test), whereas the control group’s scores rose from 52.16 to 60.88. Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.01 < 0.05), leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis. The effect size analysis (Cohen’s d = 1.6) indicated a strong level of significance, confirming the substantial impact of the treatment. These findings demonstrate that integrating interactive animated videos into speaking instruction can significantly enhance students’ oral communication skills in EFL vocational high school settings, offering a promising approach for improving language learning outcomes.
